Quote

What we saw yesterday is that to a considerable extent, we control how we are perceived. "Yo!" Gets you one response, "Excuse me, sir," another. When we address someone with respect, we are more often than likely to GET respect - not always, but more often than you think, and if you're smart, that ought to be enough. Common courtesy - "please", "thank you", "excuse me"... magical words, magical words.

Ya know...funny thing happened to me at lunch today. While I was walking to my car in the parking lot, I sneezed (loudly, like everything else I do). Some kid, a little younger than myself, said "Bless you" from acrosss the lot.

Doesn't seem to happen much anymore, ya know? Polite people rule.

It does. I stress manners most of all with my kids. I tell them, no matter what happens in life, if you are polite you will go farther and people respect good manners.
