Howdy

So today I woke up really early. Not on purpose, just kind of woke up. I checked out what was on television. What I saw was not what I expected. Saturday morning cartoons for starters are not on as early as they were when I was a kid. I remember waking up at like 5:30 or 6am when I was a wee lad and started my morning of cartoons. I had to get some in before I had to do chores so I did this by getting up before my parents did. The cartoons back in the 80's were the best. The cartoons now suck. And of the sucky ones there are not many to choose from. I remember having to flip between channels trying to watch more than one show at a time or just picking one show one week and a different show the next week for that time slot. Now it's like, well, this is all that is on so I guess this is what I will watch. I know that there are specific cartoon channels now but still, the major networks miss out on the kids who, ahem, don't have cable. I think that they should bring back the old cartoons and show them as if they were new. The children of today wouldn't know the difference. Show the smurfs, thundercats, he-man, gummi bears, and others. They don't need to be digitally remastered, just start them at the beginning, and viola! You have a Saturday morning hit!

Saint Patrick's Day

Well, one of my favorite holidays has come and gone. The Saint Patty's Day parade was yesterday. It was a good time. I caught a hotdog from our Sheriff Williamson. Shared it with my friends. Got some candy and a button. I probably could have got more free stuff if I had a spot right at the edge but I was a few people back. I met Shoo, Mrs. Shoo, Kirsten, Lori, and others out.

My camera seems to have broken, right as the parade was getting started so I got absolutely no photos. Mr. Shoo did though. So if you head over to his site and check out his flickr then you can check out a few of those there. The above are courtesy of Mr. Shoo. Thanks

Smallville

So, as many know, I'm a huge Superman fan. Back in 2001 the tv show Smallville started and I loved it. I watched as often as I could. Then I started to get busier, and started watching less and less. Now I won't watch it because I have no idea what is going on and I don't want to ruin it. And yes, it is still on. Smallville is currently in its 7th season and I just read that the CW (formerly the WB) said that the show will return in the fall with an 8th season. So, starting a few days ago I am devoting time to getting back into Smallville, starting at the beginning. I currently own seasons 1-5 on DVD, season 6 has been out a while and I plan on getting it soon. Heck, Amazon has it on sale for 60% off the list price. So far it is wonderful to get back into this show that I fell in love with so long ago. It is also so cool to be able to watch the show, unedited, without commercials, and the ability to pause and rewind. It's great!

Apartment Warming

Oh boy, last night was my and Melissa's apartment warming party. We had such a huge food spread it was awesome. Adult beverages and spiked punch and jell-o shots too. It was a good time. I didn't get to bed until about 4am and I passed out when I hit the bed. Thanks to everyone who stopped by, you rock, and those who didn't... where were ya? It's cool, more left over beer, liquor, and food for Melissa and me then.

Mmmm Grits

Question: Are grits and cream of wheat the same thing?

Answer: NO

Cream of Wheat is a hot breakfast cereal invented in 1893 by wheat millers in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The cereal is currently manufactured and sold by B&G Foods. Until 2007, it was the Nabisco brand made by Kraft Foods. It is similar in texture to grits, but made with farina (ground wheat) instead of ground corn. The product made its debut at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois.

Grits is a type of corn porridge, which is common in the Southern United States consisting of coarsely ground corn. This is similar to many other thick maize-based porridges from around the world such as polenta. It also has a lesser resemblance to farina, a thinner porridge.

Snow Day!

I wished for a snow day and I got it. Now, I told myself that I would move the rest of my stuff into my new place if it was a snow day because then I would have tons of time. Well, I didn't really think about how I have to shovel myself out of my parents' driveway and then I will be trudging through the snow at my parents' and my new apartment getting all wet and wearing myself out even more.

Now I'm having quite a time trying to gather the energy to get outside and get started. That means getting cold. I'm nice and cozy and sleepy here at my parents' place. It's like, why would I want to leave? I know why but it is hard to leave comfort.

Books

So I have gotten back into reading again. I just finished the novel Stardust by Neil Gaiman. Very good like the movie is good. I now am currently reading The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. It is wonderful. Aparently the book is the basis for the first two movies. Like the first half of the novel is the first movie and the second half of the novel is the second movie. At first I was freaking out because I was only half way through and I'm like, "hmmm this is right about where the credits would be rolling in the movie" my thing is that I have not seen the second movie so the stuff that is happening in the novel right now is just some craziness. It IS a fantasy novel and it's proving that. I like it though and it is a very good read and also makes you think, matrix style. I've already got some books ordered for when I finish this one. I'm actually excited. Could this possibly rival my DVD addiction? eh, doubt it.

Ch- Ch- Changes

Well, maybe I'm having my midlife crisis right now. At the rate that I am going this could be midlife, who knows? Not me.

It's been a while since I last blogged, I know. The thing is that not much has changed since I last posted except that a few people got married. Holidays happened. I got hit with the worst flu ever.... twice. Now it is January and isn't January the month for changes?

Everyone knows I work alot. Well, soon it won't be alot, and it will be more like enough. I have put in my two weeks notice at Hollywood and actually have just 1 week left there at this point in time. Everyone asks me why. It was a hard decision but one that I felt I chose wisely. It is a relatively easy job for part time work but it IS part time work. It has me so burnt out that I dread going. Not that I have a ton of other things that I can be doing but I feel like there are other things I should be doing. So I will have more free time coming up really soon.

Also, not by choice but I totally understand I am temporarily not doing the doorman position at the bar. Reason for this is that it could be busier. So! Everyone and their mom go down to the bar every night of the week (especially the weekend) and run a tab and drink til you're done. Don't forget to tip your waitresses and bartenders. If you do this then I will be more likely to resume my post by the door. Which I was nearing my 4 year anniversary in March.

Now for the even bigger change. I am moving again. Back to the south end of town, my old stompin grounds. Closer to my day job, closer to my family, and all around better for my soul. I will be officially moved in to my new place by February 1st. I'm sharing it with Melissa and if you want to know more about where then give me a call. We'll have a housewarming here shortly after we get moved in and situated. Although at this point in time I probably lost all of my blog readers so I'm probably just talking to myself.

I can't promise that I will be blogging more often but I will try to make an effort, kinda. ;)

Back to school back to school

Well well well. Here we are. As per usual I have been working alot. Usually putting in between 50 to 60 hours a week. Things are well with the family except for my Grandma, she hasn't been doing well recently. Things are good at my place and with the roomie. I hang out when I can or when I am not exhausted. Anymore I am just worn out. I'm back to my split shift day job. It started back up for me on July 23rd. Not much else going on. Work, hanging out, sleeping, paying bills, and all those other little things.

Hello Cubbies!

Today I am going to the Cubs Giants game. I am so stoked. I'm going with my dad, Shan, and Jen. It is a birthday present for my dad but no reason I shouldn't be excited too. Only thing is that it is a day game and we have to leave spfld really early so we have enough time to get some grub before the game. Dad is picking me up at 6am and yeah, right now it is 1:30am. I've never been good about going to bed early when I really need to.

Sunday Wings

Yes, I still do wings on Sundays. It is a tradition going on about 2 years now (or is it 3?). I don't make it every Sunday but I think it is about 3 out of 4 Sundays per month. It is always a good time. Laid back and relaxing. Good cheap wings and cheap beer and baseball on the tv's (or nascar or football depending on the season.)

Cubs swept Houston today. Awesome. My dad, sisters, and I will be at the Cubs Giants game at Wrigley on Thursday celebrating my dad's 60th birthday. It is my sisters' and my present to him.

I've got to work in less than an hour. I've been at Hollywood for a year now. Time flies. I also will be starting my 4th year with Scope in a week. I also have been at Brown's for over 3 years. I don't have much to blog about lately. Sorry to the anonymous person who commented on the previous post. I didn't know I did this blog for you, whoever you are. How about you call me up and we can do dinner some night and I can tell you all about what is going on in my life.

Hampster Dance

What ever happened to the hampster dance? It was so simple yet so funny and catchy. Is the original still out there?

Things lately, whew, yeah, and that's about all I will say on that.

Apparently Duf is in town tonight. I'm going down to DH Browns to see him and everyone else. I was supposed to see a movie tonight but we put that on hold until a later date. Last night was G's birthday. We went to the Alamo and hung out there until about 12:30am and then headed home. It was a good time. I worked 8:30-4:30 today and then stopped by HWV on the way home. Now I'm here. I need to shower and shave here in a little bit. I've let myself get "fuzzy", I think it is about time to shave it off again. Leaving the goatee though, sorry to those who are not fond of it. I like it, if it wasn't so hot out I would probably still have the full beard but I'm such a warm person anyway that I would just die out in the heat.

This Life Has Taken Its Toll

I'm tired. I like to pretend that I've got it all figured out. I don't, nobody does.

Marooned

I love Maroon 5. I got their new CD for my birthday from my sister Jen and I listen to it all the time. There are a few in particular that I really like to hear and sometimes start the CD on that song and play from there. You should check it out.

The Summer job is going well. Everyone thinks that I've been on a vacation because I have a pretty good tan happening. It is mainly because I take the kids out to play on the playground and I get some good sun while I'm out there. I try not to hide in the shade. I say if you're going to be outside and hot, you may as well soak up some of the sun and enjoy it.

I worked DH last night. That was fun as always. Quite a few people came out. Helps the night to speed along. Mojo's was alright. I was done drinking by the time I got there. The rest of the night was eh.

I work tonight and Sunday night at Hollywood. Tomorrow is Father's Day so I will be visiting with my father for that. The rest of my weekend is booked.

I need to get away. Sometimes I think about getting out of here but I don't know how I would afford it. I feel stuck and stifled

weeedoooggie

What a day. Geez. I worked about 13 hours today after a 10 hour day yesterday. I am beat. The next 2 days are just straight 8 hour days though. With my evenings free.

Started my summer day job today. The kids a cool. I'm with a specific group the rest of the week until their group leader gets better. It is their second day and there are already issues that usually go along with girls. Like they were my friend but now they played with that person over there and now they are not my friend anymore.

I'm working the door on Friday night, Hollywood video on Saturday night and then also on Sunday night. So I've got a pretty full weekend

My Adoptive Dog

Since moving I have inherited a dog. My roommate has a blue tick coon hound and his name is Scooter. He likes to beat me up. It's like having an older brother who for fun likes to pound me every so often. Scooter has left bruises on my arms and has ripped a few shirts so far. He's a cute dog and I hope these photos can capture how huge he really is. Also, he is about a year and a half old.

Some Kind of Wonderful

My birthday was a blast. Thanks to everyone who came out to help me celebrate. It means so much to know that I've got wonderful friends and family. Also, for those who were unable to make it out thanks for all the calls and texts and myspace comments.

I got some wonderful thoughtful gifts. I love them all because when I got each gift I thought to myself, "you know me so well". You know they are good gifts when you get things you love and never had to ask for them.

From my Uncle, he wrote me a poem on the spot. I want to share it because I love it so

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Your dad's name is Fred
With whom you should drink some Tullamore Dew

Kyle is known for his shaved head
Which every couple days he must shave anew
Kyle is also known for liking to stay in bed
And they say he's not adverse to a drink or two

Birthdays may sometimes weigh you down like lead
That's why it's good having friends to celebrate that are true
And having birthdays beats the alternative of being dead
It's my hope that you always have full pockets whenever the tab comes due.
